9-1-1 Emergency Service – Important Information
JMR Logics provides Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) telephone services to its customers. VoIP 9-1-1 service works differently from traditional landline 9-1-1 service. Please read the following information carefully.
How VoIP 9-1-1 Is Different
When you dial 9-1-1 using a traditional landline telephone, your call is automatically routed to the nearest emergency call centre and your address is provided to the dispatcher automatically.
VoIP 9-1-1 service has important differences and limitations you must be aware of:
- Your registered address must be current. Emergency services are dispatched to the civic address you have registered with JMR Logics. If your address is not registered or is out of date, emergency responders may be sent to the wrong location or your call may not be completed.
- VoIP 9-1-1 may not work during a power outage. If your internet connection or VoIP equipment loses power, you will not be able to make any calls, including 9-1-1. We recommend keeping a traditional telephone, a charged mobile phone, or an uninterruptible power supply (UPS) available for emergencies.
- VoIP 9-1-1 may not work during an internet service interruption. If your internet service is down for any reason, your VoIP service – including 9-1-1 – will not function.
- Moving your equipment affects 9-1-1 service. If you move your VoIP phone or equipment to a different location without updating your registered address, emergency services will be dispatched to your old address. Always notify JMR Logics before relocating your VoIP equipment.
Keeping Your Address Current
It is your responsibility to ensure that the civic address registered with JMR Logics for your VoIP service is accurate and up to date at all times.
To update your registered address, please contact JMR Logics directly:
- Phone: 905-374-2878
- Email: support@jmr.ca
Address updates will be applied to the 9-1-1 emergency routing database as promptly as possible. Please notify us in advance of any planned relocations.
Customer Acknowledgement
Prior to the commencement of VoIP service, all JMR Logics customers are required to acknowledge in writing that they have read and understand the limitations of VoIP 9-1-1 service described on this page. This acknowledgement is obtained as part of your service agreement at the time of installation.
If you have any questions about your 9-1-1 service or your registered address, please contact us at any time.
Limitation of Liability
JMR Logics takes all reasonable steps to ensure that 9-1-1 emergency service is available to its VoIP customers. However, JMR Logics shall not be liable for any damages, losses, injuries, or costs – including any failure of a 9-1-1 call to connect or to be correctly routed – arising from or related to:
- Power outages or interruptions to your internet service;
- An incorrect, incomplete, or outdated civic address in the 9-1-1 database;
- The relocation of VoIP equipment without prior notification to JMR Logics;
- Any failure, interruption, or degradation of service caused by your internet service provider or other third-party network infrastructure;
- Any other cause beyond the reasonable control of JMR Logics.
By using JMR Logics VoIP services, you acknowledge and agree to the limitations described on this page and accept that the use of VoIP 9-1-1 service is subject to those limitations.
Alternative Emergency Access
Given the limitations described above, JMR Logics strongly recommends that all customers maintain an alternative means of contacting emergency services that does not depend on VoIP or internet connectivity, such as a mobile phone.
